After a slow 2012, 2013 brought some exciting jazz around town.

Our first tune is from a jam session featuring Harold Carr on bass, Willis Clow on guitar, and Steve Lyman on drums... I call it I Heard About Hendrix

Thursday nights at the Garage were a great time to hear the Garage All Stars. Mark Cheney on drums, Harold Carr on bass, and Kevin Johanson on Guitar formed the basic trio on Comin' Home Baby. They were joined by Al Michaels on alto sax and John Flanders on tenor sax on Footprints.

Again, a bit of cheating, Four is from a Wirechoir concert in LA, but features former SLC guitarist Willis Clow.

Jazz Brulee recorded some tunes in my Studio 13. Here's one of them, Hard Hittin'.

However, 2013 brought some sadness in the local jazz community. The great bass player, Will Lovell, left us last fall. Thankfully we still have his music to remind us of him. While Trio Jam was recorded many years ago, I recently received a copy and thought I'd post it here.

His friends and former bandmates held a memorial concert for Will Lovell, and the night produced some great music. SLAJO reformed, with Willis Clow returning on guitar, and played several of Lovell's big band compositions. Check out the memorial page for pics and music.

Recorded by Rev. Willis in SLC, UT and Southern California in 2013
